Chair leads Board members in week long inspection of projects

The Chairman of Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency Hon. Julius Bakasa Wasike led a delegation of the Board of Directors and top management of the Agency for a week long inspection of various projects currently under implementation by the Agency across its coverage area.

The visits which took place from 15th to 19th February, 2021 were meant to enable the Board of Directors and the Top Management inspect the progress status of the various ongoing projects within the Agency. The visits enabled them to have appreciation of the experiences and challenges the contractors encounter during the projects implementation.

Some of the projects visited include The Acacia Community Water Supply Project, a cross boarder project which serves both the Kakamega and Uasin Gishu Counties; The Matunda Primary School Water project which was constructed with funds from the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation under the Water for Schools programme. The Matunda Primary School Water project is complete and currently serves the Matunda Primary and Secondary Schools and the neighbouring Communities. Other projects visited include Leseru Community Water Project which serves several institutions within the greater Leseru Community including the neighbouring homesteads. The Leseru Community Water project is earmarked for handing over to the County Government of Uasin Gishu anytime soon.

The other major projects visited include Kipkaren Dam Water Supply Project at the boarder of Uasin Gishu and Nandi Counties. This Project has been funded by the African Development Bank to the tune of over Kshs. 1.8Billion and was projected to be completed mid this year 2021, but this would not be possible due to external challenges including the Covid 19 outbreak. Once completed, Kipkaren Dam Water Supply Project shall serve over 300,000 consumers in Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu County as well as Mosoriot and Lelmokwo town centres in Nandi County.

The team also visited the Kapsabet Girls High School in Nandi County where the Agency did a Borehole for the school. We experienced first-hand the immense joy and appreciation of the School community following the completion of a Water Project for the school. The project was funded by Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation under water for Schools Programme and implemented by the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency. Before the project was done, the students had to walk long distances to fetch Water.

In Busia County, the team inspected the ongoing works at the Malaba Sewerage Project financed by African Development Bank (AfDB) and GoK through The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation. The project is progressing well and is set for completion by end of June, 2021. The Chairman Hon. Bakasa Wasike praised the contractor for their quality of workmanship and timeliness.

The LVNWWDA Chairman Hon. Bakasa lauded the management for organizing the visits “the projects visits enable us as Board members to relate with the reports provided to us by the management and the contractors on the status of the various projects. We have been able to jointly resolve a number of outstanding issues on the projects while on the ground.” Said the Hon. Bakasa. He was accompanied by the Ag. CEO Daniel Bundotich and the Directors Hon. Manyala Keya, Mediatrice Wangira, Rose Nyakwana who represents the PS, Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and Daniel Mutua, representative of the CS National Treasury and Planning.
