CS inspects Projects in Vihiga County

The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation Hon. Sicily Kariuki toured projects in the Vihiga County on Friday 2nd October 2020.

During the visit, the CS inspected progress of construction of The Greater Vihiga County Water Supply Project being implemented by Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency at a cost of Kshs1.8bn in Vihiga County.

The Project is one of the flagship projects being implemented by the Agency on behalf of the National Government. It consists of rehabilitation and expansion of water treatment works in Mbale, Kaimosi and Maseno. Upon completion, the project will inject an additional 2,500m3 portable water to serve over 200,000 additional new consumers.

While addressing the press during the inspection of the Mbale treatment works, the CS Hon. Sicily Kariuki assured the public that her ministry will provide all the necessary support towards the project to ensure it is completed and handed over for use by December 2020 as per the plans. “Being a flag ship project, The President HE. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta is particularly keen to ensure it is completed in time for the benefit of wananchi,” she emphasized. She said the President will want to commission the project by himself once completed. She urged all the stakeholders in the project to ensure they collaborate with each other to ensure that the project comes out a success.

The CS was accompanied by the Water Secretary Eng. Samuel Alima, Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency Chairman Julius Bakasa, CEO Eng. Daniel Bundotich, Vihiga County Commissioner, The CEC Water for Vihiga County among a host of other dignitaries.

Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) serves six counties in the Western and part of North Rift regions of Kenya with an estimated population of about 6.5 million people.

The Counties include:
