Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency on the 28th June 2021 launched its new strategic plan for the period 2019-2024, with this year’s event marking the launch of the third strategic plan.
The event was launched at the Kakamega Golf Hotel and it brought together a number of players from different water sectors and representatives from county governments of the Agency’s area of jurisdiction who had come to witness the launch of the Strategic Plan and to issue their support.
The new strategic plan builds on the successes of the previous period, draws on the lessons learnt as well as responding to the emerging issues in the water sector and it plans to ensure the development of sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure while also presenting an opportunity for the agency to enable access to water and sanitation to a larger population, reach the poor and marginalized persons.
The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Director of planning Mr. Paul ASele who was the Chief guest for the event urged the different water sectors to work together as it would allow them to grow and be able to achieve their respective goals. He also said that by collaborating it would allow the ministry to provide support and consultation to the agency giving it ample time to complete projects.
LVNWWDA Director Hon. Manyala Keya said that during this Plan’s period, focus shall be on transition as well as meeting the water and sanitation demands of the region. There will also be deliberate efforts to reach the poor and marginalized communities.
He said the implementation of this Plan will involve all Stakeholders, the Agency’s Board of Directors, management and all staff to ensure it achieves the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation set target of 70% access to clean water and 40% for improved sanitation by the year 2022.
LVNWWDA acting CEO Eng Daniel Bundotich said the Strategic Plan will guide the Agency in delivering efficient and effective services to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
“Implementation of the strategic plan will contribute to improved health of the people, reduce time spent to access water resulting to more man hour for other economic activities, spurred industrial development and guaranteed food security,” he added.
The Strategic Plan was developed in cognizance of its mandate as stipulated in the Water Act, 2016, the Kenya Vision 2030 (with special reference to MTP III), the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, the Big Four Agenda, Africa Agenda 2063, Sustainable Development Goals and other prevailing legal and policy documents.
