Lumakanda Kipkaren Water and Sanitation project

The project  serves Kipkaren trading Centre and the adjoining areas in both Rift Valley and Western Provinces, and the neighbouring Lumakanda area, particularly the Lumakanda trading centre and Lumakanda High School in Western Province.

The project also incorporated sanitation components which include expansion of on-plot sanitation facilities (public VIP latrines) and hygiene campaigns.

The work entailed construction of a treatment works with the capacity of 1200m3 per day, enough to supply Kipkaren trading center and the adjoining areas including Lumakanda. The treated water is pumped via a rising main pipelines laid along public access roads to three reservoirs, one on the road /railway reserve at the Eldoret Malaba railway crossing with the Eldoret –Malaba road, another at Lumakanda and a third one within the grounds of Lumakanda High School.
