Turbo Jumbo Charge is an NGO which fundraises from partners and usage of motor sports activities in fundraisings for the purposes of conserving Ecosystem by planting trees in the vast Mt. Elgon Forest. The NGO was allocated a total of 200 acres of land in the forest to plant trees and is in charge of organizing the ‘One Million Tree Campaign.’
On 8th October Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency led by the Manager Corporate Communications Mr. Tom Musungu participated in the aforementioned campaign. The first phase involved planting trees in Kiptogot Forest, Endebess and TransNzoia County, which forms part of the larger Mt. Elgon Forest. A total of 5000 seedlings were planted.
Additionally, the Agency contributed 2000 seedlings to the organizers to be planted in Kiptogot and Cheptais forests. In his remarks, Mr. Musungu noted that the larger Mt. Elgon Forest plays a great role in the Agency’s operations, being the source of rivers, which supplies water to the Agency’s projects in the region, that is, Kiptogot Kolongolo Water Project in TransNzoia County and KOICA Water project in Bungoma County.
Moreover, he thanked the organizers for such a wonderful event aimed at conserving the ecosystem and restoring forest cover. He noted that the Agency will continue partnering with Jumbo Charge to enable them realized their vision of planting 1 million tree seedlings by the year 2024.
The ACC Mr. Morris Karani, who represented the County Commissioner during the event, thanked all stakeholders present for their positive cooperation towards the event, congratulated the organizers for success of the event and encouraged them to bring more people on Board. Also present were Kenya Forest and Kenya Wildlife Officials.
The agency’s participation in this event is in line with one of its core values (Environmental protection) and the environmental policy statement no.2.
