ChildFund Honored by Ministry of Women and Social Affairs for Excellence in Child Protection and Alternative Childcare

ChildFund Ethiopia Country Director, Lilly Omondi, receives an award from H.E. Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs, in recognition of ChildFund’s

exceptional work in Child Protection and Alternative Childcare and Support programs across the country.

ChildFund has been recognized by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs for its outstanding contributions to Child Protection and Alternative Childcare programs across Ethiopia. The prestigious award was presented by H.E. Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs, to our Country Director, Lilly Omondi.

This recognition celebrates ChildFund’s comprehensive efforts to ensure children grow up in safe and supportive environments. Key programs and achievements that contributed to this honor include:

  • Community-Based Childcare Centers: Providing safe spaces, early learning, and nutrition support for children, particularly in underserved communities.
  • Child Protection Initiatives: Strengthening local child protection systems, training caregivers, and supporting vulnerable children at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Alternative Care and Family Support Programs: Offering guidance, resources, and mentoring to families to ensure children are nurtured in stable, supportive environments.
  • Policy and Advocacy Contributions: Supporting the launch of landmark national frameworks, including:
    • National Children’s Policy Implementing Strategy (2025)
    • Standards for Preventing and Responding to Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA) Framework (2025) – the country’s first-ever framework dedicated to promoting online safety for children.
    • Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Policy

“Receiving this award reflects the dedication of our team, partners, and the communities we serve,” said Lilly Omondi. “Through these programs and our contributions to national frameworks, we are helping to ensure that children in Ethiopia are not only protected but also empowered to thrive in safe, nurturing environments.”

The award also acknowledges ChildFund’s strong partnerships with local governments, community leaders, and other organizations, demonstrating that meaningful change is achieved when communities and institutions work together.
