Supporting schools in conflict-affected communities in Amhara Region

May 7, 2025

In conflict-affected regions, children often bear the brunt of violence and displacement, with many losing access to their right to education. At ChildFund, we are working alongside a network of partners to restore hope and opportunity for these children, providing vital educational support in communities affected by conflict.

One such initiative is the Play Matters project, funded by the International Rescue Committee, which is currently supporting 10,136 students across 10 schools in the Amhara Region. This project provides a lifeline to internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities, all of whom have been severely impacted by conflict and displacement.

Through this project, we are rehabilitating schools to create safe, welcoming learning environments. We’re furnishing classrooms with necessary furniture and providing essential scholastic materials, ensuring that children no longer miss out on education due to a lack of resources. Beyond education, the project also addresses other critical needs such as water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as child protection, health, and nutrition.

Our commitment is to help these children rebuild their futures by restoring access to education and other essential services, ensuring they achieve their full potential. Watch this video to learn more.
