MUSWASCO is the mandated water service provider for the Murang’a , Kandara, and Kigumo Sub-Counties, committed to delivering quality, reliable, and sustainable water services to a large population. We manage critical infrastructure, including treatment works like Kinyona, Ichichi, and Kiriciungu, and an extensive distribution network, with a strategic goal of achieving 79% water coverage and ensuring 100% compliance with water quality standards. We work continuously to improve supply reliability, aiming for 20 hours of daily supply.
New customers can connect by submitting a Customer Agreement Form, along with National ID, next of kin ID,Kra pin, copy of the title deed or letter from the chief and ownership documents, and paying the one-time.

The Commercial Department of MUSWASCO is dedicated to fair and accurate monthly billing, determined by regular 30-day meter readings of your consumption and adherence to the WASREB-approved tiered tariff structure, which includes a Sewerage Charge (typically 75% of the water volume charge) for connected customers.
Prompt payment is essential to avoid service interruption, with bills due by the last day of the month. We offer multiple convenient payment options, primarily through the M-Pesa Paybill number 346350, where your full account number must be used as the reference, or through in-person payments at our sub-county offices and designated paypoints, or via bank deposit to the Equity Bank Account 0890269245257.
Customers can check their balance easily by texting BALANCE to 22574 or by dialling *483*007#, and all high bill queries or errors should be promptly reported to our Customer Care team. Failure to clear outstanding arrears will lead to disconnection, requiring the payment of both the balance and a statutory Reconnection Fee to restore service.
MUSWASCO provides essential sanitation and sewerage services within its designated service areas in Murang’a South, Kandara, and Kigumo to ensure safe disposal and management of liquid waste, which is critical for environmental protection and public health. For customers connected to the sewer line, the Sewerage Charge is calculated monthly at 75% of their water consumption volume as per the approved WASREB tariff, which is included in the monthly bill; however, customers without a water connection are charged a flat fee (e.g., KSh 300-350 per month for a single domestic unit).
New domestic customers seeking a sewer connection must pay a one-time connection fee of KSh 2,500 (with commercial/industrial connections costing more). For areas without a sewer network, MUSWASCO also offers efficient and reliable exhauster services for the removal of waste from septic tanks at a fee (typically KSh 5,000 within the service area for other customers, or KSh 4,000 for informal settlements), which can be requested through their Customer Care lines.
MUSWASCO’s Technical Services Department is committed to timely and effective maintenance of the entire water and sanitation infrastructure, including pipe networks, treatment plants, and meters, with a strategic goal of reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW) from 47% to 37% through leakage detection and repairs. We rely on customers to promptly report all visible service issues by calling 0716 645 345 or 0716 645 343, or by texting their complaint to 22574.
Our Service Charter targets swift response times for reported issues: major water pipe bursts are repaired within 25 hours, minor water leakages and sewer blockages are addressed within 12 working hours. Additionally, for planned maintenance or necessary plant interruptions that may affect supply, customers will be notified in advance. This proactive and reactive maintenance cycle ensures the consistent provision of high-quality water and sanitation services across Murang’a South, Kandara, and Kigumo.
